On the23rd January at St Charles Rhys was still feeling the effects from his heavy fall but patched up he took part scoring only a single point from two rides.

He was positive going to the meeting but again another difficult tricky track; in his first ride he was in a comfortable second place when he drifted wide only to finish 4th. He went out for his second ride and had to work really hard for  the point he scored but afterwards admitted he was not fit enough but had the cheek to say at least I stayed on!

With this in mind he was preparing for a 3 day trip to Oshawa, Ontario and being positive he has gone back to preparing his bike for the meeting and to relax.

After a week at Elmira in New York visiting and doing interviews on radio stations Welm which is just sports and 94.2 Rock, Rhys also had a guided tour of the radio stations which he found interesting as he has not had the opportunity in the UK.

With a trip to Landos Lounge were he and the other riders were guests and a press and photo session on Thursday this was a big build up to the racing on Friday night. This did not go according plan with a 3rd and a fall. Saturday night was better, he reached the qualifying heat for the final where six riders take place and there's not a lot of room. Rhys did exceptionally well to finish 5th, just missing out on reaching the final but had a bit of a fall suffering heavy bruising to his left thigh and shoulder.

He has started a 16 hour trip back to Missouri were he has said he is going to recover for Saturdays event at the Family Arena St Charles.. Rhys has said that gating is important and staying on is the other important thing to remember - in his fall he became the filling in the sandwich after being stuck between two bikes and has now admitted that he is finding it harder than expected. He would like to thank everyone that is following his trip.

Rhys made his debut on Saturday 2nd January 2010 at Independence MO on the ice. He had a very good debut finishing with 2 points out of the six that were on offer; when asked what it was like he replied he found it weird but enjoyable and was looking forward to the 3rd January when he was racing again. This time he found it harder and although twice he was challenging for second/first place but fell ending with zero points and found he needs to practice his passing technique.

He was encouraged not to give up because he was showing what he can do once he gains experience and against the more experienced Anthony Barlow and James Mann, both of whom complimented him on his attitude saying he was very mature in his approach.

Rhys is now licking his wounds and preparing for Elmira in New York on 15th &1 6th January. Rhys has found acclimatising very hard and said that   -20 is cold!!
